In Memory of Arnima

Arnima Hayat attended Marrickville West Primary school from 2012 before moving to Tempe High where she graduated in 2020 to attend university. Arnima was always a kind- hearted and hardworking student. Her family were strong supporters of our school and of Connect Marrickville. One of her teachers vividly recalls talking to Arnima’s parents about her ambitions to become a doctor. Sadly that aspiration came to a tragic end, when at the age of 19, her life was taken in an act of domestic violence.

Connect Marrickville and our wider school community will hold a Candlelight Vigil for Arnima on Friday 18th March from 7-8pm. We will meet by the Cooks river in Ewan Park (Tennant Parade) Hurlstone Park to stand by her family in sorrow and remembrance, to honour her life and reflect on how we can help bring an end Domestic violence in our communities.

Experienced paddlers within the canoe club community will be attending this service, to assist from the water, with the collection of candles etc. To register interested, please email
