The River Canoe Club's raffle supports the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, raising funds for vital research, support services, and awareness programs. With fantastic prizes generously donated by local businesses and paddling community partners, every ticket helps support Australian men and families affected by prostate cancer. All proceeds will go to PCFA.

The Club had a great day out on the water recently for our River Canoe Club Double Shot Challenge, raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. We saw 21 paddlers heading out across Botany Bay, with people taking on different distances out towards Carrs Bush Park. The weather really turned it on for us, and our flotilla of kayaks was matched only by the armada of jet skis on the bay. We’ve now raised $2936 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, with the raffle still running until our AGM on 17 October.

We have a packed calendar of Club events coming up, from open water paddles to river cleanups to adventure days, so be sure to join in the action.

The Photo Competition display isn’t the only reason to be at the Club on this day! The Annual General Meeting is a great chance to catch up with other Club members for a bite and drink, hear how the Club is travelling, and get involved with this fantastic Club.

Interested in joining the Committee? The AGM is the place to do it. Consider putting your hand up to be a general Committee member. It’s a good way to start learning about what goes on in the background and how you can help. There will likely be a paddle on the day too—stay tuned.

It's time again for our annual River Canoe Club Photo Competition, where we celebrate the year by looking back at some of the fantastic moments captured on film. We're excited to see your best photos! The winners will be announced at the AGM, and all entries will be up on display for you to vote on.

Entries must be received by Sunday 4 October 2026. Send each entry to riversphotocomp@gmail.com.

You can submit up to eight images overall, with up to two in each of the following categories: Club Trips, Club Members, Landscape + Wildlife and Abstracts. Photos must have been taken over the past 12 months to qualify.

Send each image in a separate email. Ensure that you provide a title for the photo, the competition category, a description that includes when and where it was taken, along with your name. Images must be originals at least 1MB in size. Entries that are not properly described, low resolution, or sent after the closing date will not be accepted.

All photos that are submitted on the understanding that they can be reproduced for the RCC Photo Competition, RCC publications,  RCC website and RCC Instagram. All photos that include close-ups of recognisable people must have the approval of those people for their image to be included in the photo competition. By entering this competition you agree that the photograph submitted was taken by you, and complies with all rules.

The Mullets are our school of water-based eco-warriors who are deeply concerned about the health and wellbeing of the Cooks River. Each month, we don lifejackets, grab rubbish bags and collectors, then launch a mighty fleet of kayaks and canoes onto our beautiful river to collect rubbish that’s floating and stuck in mangroves. At the end of the trip we sort and photograph the rubbish. Read more about the Mullets and our Club's sustainability initiatives.

Our Sea Kayaking Pathways series is open to Club paddlers looking to gain skills in open-water conditions. This monthly series is led by our Training Officer, Robert Walker, and takes in the waters off Sydney, including Port Hacking, Kurnell and Botany Bay. Learn to read swells, chop, reflected waves and weather conditions. Contact Rob to discuss joining this series.

New in 2026 are weekend paddles on Middle Harbour, convened by Karen W—our intrepid north-shore based convenor. These paddles are primarily organised through the River Canoe Club WhatsApp channel, so be sure to join this channel to keep abreast of these great outings. They are generally held on Sunday mornings, exploring Middle Harbour and northern Sydney Harbour, occasionally venturing further north to Pittwater and beyond! The regular paddles are for more confident paddlers wanting to build or maintain paddle fitness in a range of different sea conditions. Location varies from week to week, so join the RCC Sunday Morning WhatsApp group to find out more.

Every week we offer three fantastic social paddles on Cooks River, at 5.30pm Tuesdays, 5.30pm Wednesdays and 7.00am Fridays. The evening paddles are social, with the Friday mornings a little more fitness-oriented. We paddle down to Botany Bay and sometimes over to Brighton-le-Sands, and other times up past Ewen Park towards Canterbury. Other side trips can include Muddy Creek, Wolli Creek and Alexandra Canal.

Join us on flat water, moving water, whitewater and sea kayaking adventures. Explore the beautiful coastlines, bays, harbours and rivers around Sydney and New South Wales. Enjoy the great outdoors on day trips, weekend camping getaways and week-long safaris.
