A three-day, two night, flat-water camping weekend with multiple paddling opportunities, some suitable for beginners that are capable of paddling 15km. Paddlers may also opt for a two-day, single night trip.
We will paddle on Lake Yarrunga which is formed by two flooded river valleys (Kangaroo and Shoalhaven Rivers) and is approximately 39km of flat water held by Tallowa Dam which is roughly mid-way between the two locations. There is easy vehicle access and boat entry/exit at the Bendeela Camping and Picnic Ground and at Tallowa Dam. The main event will be a paddle into the Shoalhaven Gorge on Saturday 23 March. This gorge has spectacular cliffs climbing to 400m high on each side of the waterway and is regarded as one of the top flat water paddling locations in Australia.
Other paddles will be determined by the paddling group at the time, but are likely to be start from the Bendeela Camping and Picnic Ground which will be used as our base for camping. Participants will need to book their own camping which is currently $6 per booking. See https://www.waternsw.com.au/nsw-dams/greater-sydney-dams/bendeela-recreation-area
Alternative accomodation is available nearby for those that prefer not to camp. All accomodation booking is at the participants risk should the paddle need to be cancelled for whatever reason.
Expressions of Interest for this paddle will be open in mid-February on the club EventBright page: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/river-canoe-club-28111898381
