Kangaroo Valley/ Lake Yarrunga – 3 Day Camping at Bendeela

Looking for a fun and scenic paddling getaway? Come spend a relaxed beginners/intermediate‑level weekend exploring the beautiful waters of Lake Yarrunga, between Bendeela Camping and Beehive Point.
This stunning lake winds through two flooded river valleys—the Kangaroo and Shoalhaven Rivers—and offers around 35 km of calm, flat water framed by the breathtaking escarpment of the Southern Highlands. It’s truly one of Australia’s most spectacular flat‑water paddling locations. For more location information see the Destinations Page on the club Website.
Note: There is no mobile reception on the water, so it’s a great chance to unplug!
What to Expect
We’ll run a variety of paddles over the weekend, ranging from 14 km to 22 km with the possibility of experienced paddlers paddling further, so there’s something for everyone. Depending on group size and abilities, we may split into smaller paddling groups, with longer distances available for more experienced paddlers.
This trip is perfect for anyone who has completed the River Canoe Club Beginners Course and can comfortably paddle 16 km and perform a wet exit. The trip is suitable for sea kayaks and canoes.
The weekend spans three days, but you’re welcome to join for fewer days if that suits you. Our main paddle—likely heading towards Acacia Flat and Behive Point – will take place on Saturday. There is currently no access to Tallowa Dam and so we will stay on the super pretty Kangaroo River Arm of the lake.
Gear and Boats
Club boats will be available. However, we’re not yet sure whether the club trailer will be coming along, so you may need to pick up and transport your boat yourself.
Camping and Accomodation
We’ll be staying at the relaxing Bendeela Recreation Area, which has easy access to the water, car‑accessible campsites, drinking water, and toilet facilities. You’ll need to make your own booking, and a small $6 booking fee applies.
Prefer not to camp? There are options for accommodation in the nearby village—but one of the best parts of these weekends is hanging out together around the campsite, so we’d love to have you join in the fun!
Please note: If the trip needs to be cancelled for any reason, the club won’t be responsible for any financial loss.
Registration
Registration are now open and close at 5pm on Wednesday 18 March.
