This paddle is on the Nepean River, paddling from Penrith through the Nepean Gorge to Norton’s Basin and into the Warragamba River below the dam. We will start at 9am and be back around 4pm. This is a very pretty paddle through a steep walled gorge with several significant creeks running into it. There is a pretty waterwall on the approach to Warragamba Dam if we get that far.
The weather forecast for Saturday is perfect paddling conditions – 22 degrees, mostly sunny and 5 kph winds. It is likely to be cooler in the gorge, but the water is likely to be very still. This will be on the long side of club paddles at 30km round trip to Norton’s Basin and an additional 4km if we have time paddle up towards the dam.
Whilst this is not a technical paddle, due of the distance, and the lack of alternative exits, this paddle is only open to paddlers that can 25km or more. Again, due to the distance this paddle is only available for those paddling a seakayak of at least 4.3m length or equivalent.
