Wollongong Northern Suburbs
The coastline along the Northern Suburbs and villages of Wollongong is a series of cliffs, sandy beaches and rock platforms. In good conditions it is a great paddle for experienced paddlers. Launching can be from a beach or a local boat ramp. Paddling North of Coaldale there are no boat ramps and you will need to negotiate surf for entry and exits.
Highlights of this area include the Sea Cliff Bridge between Clifton and Coalcliff. Just north of Stanwell Park there is a cave (Hell’s Hole) that can be explored if the tide is low, and conditions are calm. If there’s an inshore wind you are also likely to see paragliders and hand gliders at Bald Hill on the northern edge of Stanwell Park. Dolphins are a frequent sight as well as whales during their migration.
