Destination – Upper Shoalhaven River

Whitewater Paddling is a dangerous activity that should only be undertaken in groups with proper training, and competencies.

The Shoalhaven River rises in the Southern Tablelands of NSW and runs to the South Coast east of Nowra. It also feeds Lake Yarrunga near Kangaroo Valley, one of the best flat water paddling locations in the country.

Upstream of Lake Yarrunga the Shoalhaven River runs through a rugged and isolated gorge providing some serious whitewater adventure. The River Canoe Club’s whitewater paddlers have had many great trips to this river. There are a few places where the river can be accessed for day trips as well as a five day whitewater trip that runs from the river Oallen Ford down into Lake Yarrunga.  The river has rapids up to grade 4 making this spectacular and adrenaline filled paddling experience. Details of individual sections can be found on the Waterways Guide.
