Penrith Whitewater Stadium

Penrith Whitewater Stadium is a man-made whitewater river built for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The river is a 320m loop with a drop of 5.5m and is fed by water pumped from a lake.  14 cubic metres of water per second flows down the river which has a series of rapids and drops that can be varied by rearranging movable bollards. The river is a pushy grade 3 series of rapids that empty into a bottom pool of still water. There is a conveyor belt to return paddlers to the start of the course. The stadium has goof parking, change facilities and a café.

The stadium is popular with many club members for whitewater fun and practice during its recreational paddle sessions that are open to the public. Unlike a natural river, it has reliable and consistent flow regardless of weather and is absent of certain river obstacles that make paddling in a natural whitewater river more hazardous. A competency assessment must be satisfactorily completed before people can use the recreational sessions.  The stadium also provides great whitewater training for both juniors and adults wishing to get into whitewater paddling.
