Murrumbidgee River, Childowlah

Whitewater Paddling is an exhilarating but dangerous activity that should only be undertaken in groups with proper training, and competencies.

The Childowlah rapids are a few kilometres downstream of Burrinjuck Dam near Yass. There are several rapids in this section with calm pools in between. These make a fun paddle of several kilometres for a relatively short car shuttle. They are classified as Grade Two rapids – See Waterways Guide

The club has used these rapids over several years for its whitewater training, however the location is only feasible when during an appropriate water release from Burrinjuck Dam. The river is typically wide and the rapids can be foreseen for scouting purposes. There are plenty of eddies to practice and one good play wave near Nanangreo Reserve.
