After sending out an EOI for interest in a paddle on Australia Day, there were more responses than expected, which resulted in seven Club paddlers celebrating Australia Day on the Hawkesbury.
We set off from Parsley Bay, Brooklyn and headed for Patonga, crossing the boating channel as a group then keeping near the shore to avoid the many boats on the river. After a leisurely morning tea and chat at Patonga Park we started back.
Soon talk returned to coffee breaks, resulting in a diversion to Dangar Island where afternoon tea was imbibed. The sky started to turn a bit dark with thunder threatening so we left and getting the kayaks on the cars just before the rain fell. I hope to paddle with River Canoe Club in this area again soon.
There were many other events over the last couple of months, including a Balmoral paddle on 5 January organised by Roddy Kerr and a paddle from the Clubhouse out toward Dolls Point on 27 January led by Katie VanderDonk. Always something going on at the Club!
