The Double Shot Challenge is a community paddle raising funds and awareness for those living with prostate cancer, and those who support them.

On 20 September, paddlers will come together for a coffee-to-coffee challenge across beautiful Botany Bay. But you don’t have to be in Sydney to take part.

You can:

🚣🏼 Join us on the water for the 27km Double Shot or the shorter 12km Piccolo paddle

🌍 Join anywhere. Register, set your own distance, log your kilometres and raise funds from wherever you are.

Whether you paddle 5km or 50km, every kilometre paddled, every conversation started and every dollar raised helps support men and families affected by prostate cancer.

Our goal is simple:

1) Collectively paddle 500km in one day

2) Raise funds for research and treatment

3) Encourage more men to get checked and start conversations that could save lives.

The plan:

We will start the day with a coffee at the Cooks River Canteen before heading to the River Canoe Clubhouse to gear up and set off on a paddle across Botany Bay. The longer (double shot) paddle will take us across the Bay and into the Georges River. We will stop at Carrs Bush Park and enjoy our second coffee at By the Bay cafe before returning to the clubhouse. This is around 27km.

If you opt for the shorter (piccolo) paddle, you will stop mid-way across Botany Bay and enjoy a coffee in Brighton Le Sands before returning to the clubhouse. This will be around 12km.

Or, if you can’t join us but you still want to take part, register for the event and select to paddle your own journey. Register how many kms you plan to paddle on 20 Sep and help us fundraise and build awareness.

Fundraising raffle

We will shortly open tickets for a raffle to support fundraising efforts. All proceeds will go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

We are incredibly grateful to Expedition Kayaks, Horizon Line Canoes, Paddle & Portage, Pro Kayaks, Paddle Zone, the Cooks River Alliance and Global Paddler for donating prizes.

Important information

  • The event is suitable for 4.8m+ sea-kayaks.
  • It is not suitable for absolute beginners. Paddlers should be comfortable with wet exits, boat traffic, and potentially choppy conditions.
  • Participants must be able to paddle 12km or 27km (both paddle routes will include a break at the half way point).
