Founded in 1935, the River Canoe Club has a rich legacy of promoting the sport of canoeing and fostering a sense of community among paddling enthusiasts. Over the past 90 years, our club has grown from a small group of passionate paddlers to a vibrant community that welcomes members of all ages and skill levels. To celebrate the club’s 90th birthday, we honor the dedication and spirit of our founding members and all those who have contributed to the club’s success over the years. We will do this by spending a weekend at the beautiful Shoalhaven River, where much of the club’s early paddling took place.

For this weekend, the club will be based at the Coolendel Campground, west of Nowra. Paddlers will need to book camping directly with the campground. The campground offers good amenities and is nestled along 2.5 km of the banks of the lower Shoalhaven River. Subject to availability, there are some alternatives to camping (cabins and glamping) for anyone that doesn’t want bring their own camping gear.

The river at the campground is mostly gentle flat water with one small Grade 1+ rapid for anyone wishing to play around in moving water. A short drive away provides easy access to a longer flatwater section of the Shoalhaven River. Danjera Dam is also close by.

Above all this will be social weekend and a chance to catch-up with our fellow paddlers in an informal setting.  We will welcome any past members who wish to join us. If you are a past member without a current Paddle Australia membership please contact the club directly to participate.

Our intention is to have several paddling options available either around the Campground or a little further afield. None will be lengthy paddles and will be suitable for inexperienced paddlers. We also aim to have a few fun paddle related activities on dry land

Coolendel is a great place for families and non-paddlers to enjoy the natural environment so any partners and families are welcome to join in the fun. The precise program of paddle options will be determined closer to the weekend.
