This Paddle is on the tidal waters of Port Hacking starting and ending at Bonnievale in the Royal National Park (NP Fees apply). There is no fixed program for this session, it will depend on the conditions on the day and who is attending. The objective is just to have a fun day in a beautiful paddle location. We will meet at 9:00am* to be on the water by 9:30. We will aim to be wrapped up by 3pm so that paddlers wishing to attend the Club AGM have time to get there.
There is a particularly high tide on this day at 10am which will then drop from 1.9m to 0m at 5:15pm. To take advantage of this, some time will be spent playing in the fast-flowing water under the bridge at the entrance of Cabbage Tree Basin. If conditions are good we will have a surf session on the sandbank in Simpson’s Bay (a safe place to have some fun). The water should be warm. There are tentative plans to paddle inland flowing rivers in 2026. This paddle will be useful preparation for those paddles.
The most likely program for the day will be a paddle out to Jibbon Beach, possible to Jibbon Head if conditions are calm. We will then return and play in the surf in Simpson’s Bay before paddling into Cabbage Tree basin. We may also practice some wet exits and deep-water rescues.
This paddle is not suitable for beginners. To take part in this paddle you must be confident swimmer, to wet exit and perform assisted deep water rescue. You must wear a spraydeck.
For further information on Port Hacking check out the destinations page of the club website.
Club boats will be available to RCC full members for this paddle, but you will need to be able to arrange to pick-up the boat and any gear and transport it yourself.
