This will be a relaxed paddle travelling with the tide in each direction. The tide is likely to be moving at around 2km/hr and hence assist with the paddle. This paddle is suitable for paddlers with limited experience but not for beginners. To join this paddle members must be in a sea kayak of at least 4.3m in length or a canoe. You must be able to paddle the boat in a straight line, be able to wet exit and maintain a speed of 5-6km/hour for 90 minutes at a time. You must be comfortable paddling 16km on flat water.
Club boats are available for this paddle but you will need to pick it up and transport it yourself.
The group will meet at Lambeth Reserve off Henry Lawson Drive at 9am to be on the water paddling by 9:30am.
This paddle will head northwest (right from the riverbank) upstream towards Chipping Norton. The stretch to Grand Flaneur Beach is 12 km each way.
This paddle includes a part of the river where you could encounter fast boat traffic, however for most or the route it is quiet. It feels rural in places and passes housing in others. After significant rain this stretch of river will flow fast but that is not expected on this occasion. At Chipping Norton Lake there may be sailing boats on the water that will need to be avoided.
