This is a leisurely social paddle suitable for club beginners with a distance of about 12km.  Starting at the clubhouse in Tempe we will paddle as a group down to the Cook River mouth of the River at Botany Bay.  If conditions allow and paddlers are confident to continue, we will paddle into Botany Bay to Brighton-Le-Sands for a break where there is a cafe and toilets.  We will return via the same way back to the clubhouse. You should expect to paddle 12km.

To participate in this paddle, you must be able to wet exit and swim in deep water. Anyone 17 years old or under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

All paddlers need to bring:

  • Clothing – Boardies, Rashie (long sleeved preferably)
  • Non-slip shoes – suitable for getting wet, which do not come off easily
  • Wide brimmed hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Any medication you need
  • Water and snacks suitable for a few hours

The following is recommended:

  • Sunglasses and retaining strap are recommended
  • In winter months, warm clothes are recommended. A spare change of clothes and towel in a dry bag is a good idea
  • Straps to secure loose items such as phones, cameras and water bottles

Paddlers bringing their own boats should ensure it is in good order, and they have a PDF and paddle. To match speeds on the water you should be in a well performing recreational kayak or a sea kayak.
